    Anniversary gift chart by year

Here is every themed anniversary in one table. The traditional column is the older list of materials, which gets sturdier and more precious as the years add up: paper that could tear in year one, wood by year five, silver by twenty-five and gold by fifty. The modern column is a newer, more practical alternative. Where a year has only one theme, the two lists agree or only the modern list names it.

The modern list also names a few of the in-between years: silver hollowware for the 16th, furniture for the 17th, porcelain for the 18th, bronze for the 19th, brass or nickel for the 21st, copper for the 22nd, silver plate for the 23rd and musical instruments for the 24th. Lists differ slightly from country to country, so treat the chart as inspiration rather than a rulebook. For the 14th, choose something ivory-coloured, never real ivory.

How the anniversary gift finder works

Type the anniversary you are shopping for, use the plus and minus buttons, or tap one of the popular milestones. The result changes instantly: you see the traditional theme in large type, the modern alternative underneath and three gift ideas written for that year. Each set mixes a keepsake, something you can use together and an experience, because the best anniversary gifts are rarely just objects.

If you are not sure which anniversary is next, enter your wedding date or the day you got together instead. The tool works out the next anniversary, shows its date and weekday and counts the days left, so you know how much time you have to plan. If today is the day, it tells you that too. For years without a classic theme it suggests your own and points you to the next themed milestone.

Everything runs in your browser. Your date is never sent anywhere or added to the link. Only the anniversary number goes in the page address, so you can drop a hint by sending your partner a link that opens on the right year.

How to choose an anniversary gift they will love

Use the theme as a starting point, not a shopping list. "Paper" can mean a love letter, concert tickets, a printed map of where you met or a book with a note inside. Read the theme loosely and it becomes much easier to find something personal.

Think about how they feel loved. Someone who values quality time will remember a day out far longer than a present, while someone who lights up at gifts will treasure a thoughtful object. If you have never talked about it, take the love language test together first.

Combine a small gift with a shared moment. A wooden box on its own is nice. A wooden box with five letters inside, read together over dinner, is the one they will keep. Need a plan for the evening? Try the date night ideas generator.

Start a tradition. Some couples write a letter every anniversary, take the same photo in the same spot or add one page to a shared album. Over the years, the tradition becomes the gift.

Remember the date in advance. The together calculator shows when every anniversary and day milestone falls. In Duora, your anniversary lives in your shared space and the Together-for widget keeps your days on both home screens, so it never sneaks up on you.

    Questions

What is the traditional gift for each anniversary year?

The best-known list starts with paper for the 1st anniversary, cotton for the 2nd, leather for the 3rd, fruit and flowers for the 4th and wood for the 5th, then moves through tin, china, silver, pearl, ruby and gold for the 50th. The full chart on this page covers every themed year up to the 75th.

What is the difference between traditional and modern anniversary gifts?

Traditional themes are the older list of materials, like paper, cotton and leather, that grew more precious with each year. The modern list was added in the 20th century and suggests more practical or contemporary gifts, like clocks, china and crystal. Many couples pick whichever one inspires a better gift.

Do anniversary gift themes apply if we are not married?

The lists were made for wedding anniversaries, but nothing stops you using them for the day you got together. A paper gift for your first year dating or a wooden keepsake at five years is just as meaningful. Enter either date in the tool to find your next one.

What if our anniversary year has no traditional gift?

After the 15th year the classic list only names every fifth anniversary, and the modern list fills a few of the years in between. For the rest, choose your own theme, recreate an early date or start preparing for the next big milestone. The tool tells you which themed year comes next.

Which anniversaries are the biggest milestones?

The 1st, 10th, 25th (silver), 40th (ruby), 50th (gold) and 60th (diamond) anniversaries are usually celebrated the most. The 25th and 50th often come with a family party, while the first is a chance to start a tradition of your own.

How can we make sure we never forget our anniversary?

Duora is a free couple app for iPhone and Android that keeps your anniversary in your shared space, with a Together-for widget that counts your days on both home screens and a private journal for the dates and photos you want to remember.
