The 5 love languages at a glance
Everyone gives and receives affection a little differently. The love languages are a simple way to name those differences so you can stop guessing. Here is what each one tends to sound like, and one small thing to try this week.
| Love language | Feels like | Try this week |
|---|---|---|
| Words of affirmation | "I noticed how hard you worked on that." | Send one specific compliment a day, about something they did, not how they look. |
| Quality time | "Phones down, I'm all yours." | Take a 20-minute walk together with no agenda and no screens. |
| Receiving gifts | "I saw this and thought of you." | Bring home something under a few dollars that matches an inside joke. |
| Acts of service | "Don't worry, I already sorted it." | Quietly take over the chore they like least for the whole week. |
| Physical touch | A hand on the back in a crowded room. | Start and end each day with a proper hug, not a quick one. |
How the love language test works
Each of the 20 questions puts two loving gestures side by side and asks which one would mean more to you. Every possible pairing of the five love languages appears exactly twice, so no language gets an unfair head start. Each language can score from 0 to 8, and your percentages show how often you chose it when it was on the table.
There are no right answers, and you will probably like both options in most questions. That is the point: when you are forced to choose, the gestures that matter most to you rise to the top. Go with your first instinct rather than what you think you should pick.
If your top two scores are tied, you will see both. A close result is common and simply means you value more than one kind of affection about equally.
What to do with your result
A love language is most useful when your partner knows it too. Use the share button to send the test, then compare your scores side by side. Couples often discover that they have been showing love in their own language rather than their partner's: one person cooks dinner every night (acts of service) while the other is waiting for a heartfelt "I appreciate you" (words of affirmation).
Pick one habit from your partner's list and one from yours and keep them going for a couple of weeks. Small and consistent beats grand and rare. If you are in a long-distance relationship, lean on the languages that travel well: messages, scheduled calls and little surprises in the post can stand in for touch and time until you are together again.
Want a daily nudge? Duora's daily question gives you something real to talk about every day, and the Love Note widget puts kind words right on your partner's home screen. Curious how long you have been speaking each other's language? Try the together calculator.

Questions
What are the 5 love languages?
They are five common ways people give and receive love: words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch. The idea comes from counsellor Gary Chapman's 1992 book The Five Love Languages.
How accurate is this love language test?
It is a quick self-reflection tool, not a clinical assessment. Your result reflects how you answered today, so treat it as a starting point for a conversation with your partner rather than a fixed label. This is an independent quiz and is not affiliated with the official book or its assessment.
Can you have more than one love language?
Yes. Most people have one or two that clearly stand out and others that matter less. If two of your scores are equal, the test shows both. Your mix can also shift over time, for example during a stressful job or a long-distance stretch.
What if my partner and I have different love languages?
That is very common and not a warning sign. It simply means the way you naturally show love may not be the way your partner best receives it. Share your results, pick one small habit from each other's list and try it for a week.
Are my answers saved anywhere?
No. The quiz runs entirely in your browser and your answers are never sent to a server. When you finish, only your five scores are added to the page link so you can share or revisit your result. See our privacy policy.
How can we speak each other's love language every day?
Small, regular habits work better than big gestures. Duora is a free couple app for iPhone and Android with a daily question you answer together, a Love Note widget for kind words on your partner's home screen and 2,500+ questions and couple games for quality time.
