Questions to ask your partner, by mood
Not every evening calls for a heart-to-heart. Sometimes you want to laugh, sometimes you want to flirt, and sometimes you are a few time zones apart and just want to feel close. The four categories in the generator are built around those moods. Here is what each one is for, with one example to get you started.
| Category | Best for | Example question |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ Deep | Quiet evenings, long walks, after a big week | "What do you need from me on your worst days?" |
| ๐ Fun | Road trips, waiting rooms, breaking a dull mood | "Which fictional couple are we most like?" |
| ๐ Flirty | Date night, a dinner out, a sweet message | "When did you first want to kiss me?" |
| โ๏ธ Long distance | Video calls, goodnight texts, before a visit | "What time of day do you miss me the most?" |
| โจ All | When you can't decide | A random mix of all four, shuffled together |
How the question generator works
Choose a category and the generator shuffles every question in it into a random order, then shows you the first one straight away. Each tap on "Next question" moves one step through the shuffled deck, so you won't see the same question twice until you have been through them all. When you reach the end, the deck reshuffles and starts over. The back arrow takes you to the previous question if you skipped one too quickly.
Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you do on this page is sent to a server, and the only thing added to the page link is the category you picked, so a link you send to your partner opens on the same mood with a fresh question. The share button sends the current question as text, ready to paste into any chat.
Every question was written by the Duora team for couples. They are open-ended on purpose: none can be answered with a simple yes or no, and most work just as well whether you have been together for three weeks or thirty years.
How to turn a question into a real conversation
A good question is only half of it. The other half is how you listen. A few habits make a big difference:
Both answer. Take turns, and don't let one person become the interviewer. Hearing your partner's answer to the same question is often where the surprises are.
Ask one follow-up. "Why that one?" or "What did that feel like?" turns a one-line answer into a story. One follow-up is usually enough; three starts to feel like a quiz.
Skip freely. If a question doesn't land, tap next. Some questions need the right day, and a deep question at the wrong moment is worse than a silly one at the right moment.
Match the setting. Fun questions suit a car ride or a queue. Save the deep ones for when you have time and no audience, like a slow dinner at home or a walk with your phones in your pockets.
Make it a ritual. One question a day does more than twenty in one go. That is the idea behind Duora's daily question: you both answer the same prompt separately, then reveal your answers together and see how well you read each other. If you want to know how you each feel most loved, the love language test is a great conversation starter too.

Questions
What are good questions to ask your partner?
Good questions are open-ended, specific and about the two of you, so they cannot be answered with a yes or no. Mix lighter ones, like which fictional couple you are most like, with deeper ones, like what home feels like to them. The best question is often the one you would never think to ask on an ordinary evening.
How many questions are in the generator?
There are 94 questions across four categories: 25 deep, 25 fun, 22 flirty and 22 for long-distance couples. Each category is shuffled when you open it, so you will see every question once before any repeat.
Are the flirty questions explicit?
No. The flirty category is playful and romantic but stays safe for a cafรฉ, a car ride or a video call. It focuses on first impressions, attraction and favourite memories rather than anything graphic.
What should long-distance couples ask each other?
Ask about each other's ordinary days, what you miss and what you are looking forward to. Questions about the next visit, small surprises and shared rituals across time zones help the distance feel temporary and give you something to plan together.
How often should couples ask each other deep questions?
There is no rule, but a little often works better than a lot rarely. One honest question a day takes a few minutes and keeps you curious about each other, while a long list in one sitting can feel like an interview.
Is there an app that gives couples a question every day?
Yes. Duora is a free couple app for iPhone and Android that gives you both the same question every day. You answer separately, then reveal both answers together. It also has 2,500+ questions and couple games, a shared journal and home screen widgets.
