A countdown plan for the weeks before you meet

Long waits feel shorter when they have shape. Instead of staring at one big number, give each stretch of the countdown a small job. Here is a simple plan you can follow together, whether the gap is three weeks or three months.

Time to goWhat to doWhy it helps
30 daysLock in tickets and a rough plan for the first day.A booked trip turns "someday" into a date you can both count to.
2 weeksEach pick one thing you want to do together, kept secret.Gives you both a surprise to look forward to and plan quietly.
1 weekSwap one photo a day of something you'll show them in person.Builds the feeling of a shared life before you're in the same place.
3 daysWrite a short letter to read on the first evening.Puts the things that are hard to say on video into words.
One more sleepPack, charge everything and have a short, early call.A calm last night beats a tired, anxious first hello.
The dayLeave the first few hours unplanned. After weeks of screens, just being in the same room is the plan.

How the countdown works

Pick the date you will see each other. If you know when the train, bus or flight gets in, add the time too and the countdown runs to that exact minute. Without a time, it counts to midnight at the start of the day, which is when "it's today" begins for most people. Everything is measured in your own time zone, and daylight saving changes are handled by your browser's calendar.

"Sleeps to go" is the number of nights left, counted on the calendar rather than in 24-hour blocks, so a reunion tomorrow afternoon is always one more sleep even if it is 30 hours away. Add the day you last saw each other and the tool also shows how much of the wait is already behind you, and the exact halfway point. For many couples, passing halfway is the moment the countdown starts to feel winnable.

The share button sends a link with only the dates in it. When you include a time, the link stores the exact moment instead of a clock time, so a partner in another country sees the same countdown in their own local time, with no time zone maths.

Making the time apart feel shorter

Keep one small daily ritual. A long call every night is hard to keep up across time zones. One shared question, one photo or one voice note a day is easy, and it adds up to weeks of real conversation. Stuck for something to ask? Try the long-distance set in our questions to ask your partner generator.

Plan a date you can have apart. Watching the same film on a call, cooking the same recipe or playing a game together turns an empty evening into a shared one. The date night ideas generator has a long-distance filter for exactly this.

Keep each other in view. Duora was made for couples who are apart. Your shared journal keeps your trips and countdowns in one private timeline, and the home screen widgets let you leave a love note or a doodle on your partner's phone so you're the first thing they see when they unlock it.

Questions

How do I make a countdown until I see my boyfriend or girlfriend?

Enter the day you will see each other and, if you know it, the time their train or flight gets in. The countdown starts straight away and shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left, plus how many sleeps to go.

What does "sleeps to go" mean?

It is the number of nights left before the day you meet. If you see each other tomorrow, there is one more sleep. Many couples find sleeps easier to count than hours because it matches how the wait actually feels.

Will my partner see the same countdown in another time zone?

Yes, when you add a time. The shared link stores that exact moment, so your partner's phone counts down to the same instant and shows it in their local time. Without a time, the countdown runs to the start of that day wherever each of you is.

How is the halfway point calculated?

Add the day you last saw each other under Personalize. The tool finds the exact middle between that day and your reunion, shows it as a checkpoint and fills a progress bar as the wait goes by.

Is anything I enter saved or shared?

Nothing is sent to a server. Your dates are remembered in this browser so the countdown is still there when you come back, and your partner's name never leaves your device. Only the dates go into the page link so you can share it. See our privacy policy.

Can we keep a countdown in a couple app?

Yes. Duora is a free couple app for iPhone and Android with a shared journal that keeps countdowns for your upcoming plans, plus home screen widgets for love notes and doodles that make long distance feel a little closer.
